Times Higher Education (THE), one of the world’s most prestigious academic ranking organizations, has released the 2026 World University Rankings by Subject. Istanbul Medipol University attracted considerable attention with its performance in the fields of Business and Economics,Engineering, and Medicine and Health.
The rankings, compiled within the framework of THE’s new evaluation system “WUR 3.0,” which places research quality, knowledge production, and patent impact at the center of university assessment, included only those institutions that met the designated academic and impact-related criteria.
Within this context, the announced results rendered Istanbul Medipol University’s approach to knowledge production, innovation, and impact-based academic development visible at an international level.
MEDIPOL AMONG THE WORLD’S TOP UNIVERSITIES IN THREE FIELDS
According to the announced results, Istanbul Medipol University ranked within the 301–400 band worldwide in the field of Business and Economics. It placed 5th nationwide in Türkiye and 3rd among foundation universities. In THE’s evaluation, a total of 1,067 universities worldwide and 23 universities from Türkiye were included in the rankings for this field.
The University also achieved a remarkable success in the subcategory of Research Quality under Business and Economics. Ranking 65th globally in this category, Medipol secured 1st place among all public and foundation universities in Türkiye.
INTERNATIONAL SUCCESS IN ENGINEERING
In the field of Engineering, Istanbul Medipol University ranked within the 501–600 band globally, placing 8th nationwide and 4th among foundation universities in Türkiye. The University had previously been positioned in the 801–1,000 band in this field last year. In Engineering, 1,555 universities worldwide and 79 universities from Türkiye that met the criteria were included in the rankings.
The University also achieved a major success in the subcategory of International Outlook within the field of Engineering. Ranking 209th worldwide in this category, Medipol placed 1st among all public and foundation universities in Türkiye.
MEDIPOL’S STRONG PERFORMANCE IN MEDICINE AND HEALTH
In the field of Medicine and Health, Istanbul Medipol University ranked within the 601–800 band globally and placed 3rd in Türkiye. The University had been positioned in the 1,001+ band in this field the previous year. This year, 1,230 universities worldwide and 74 universities from Türkiye that met the criteria were evaluated in this field.
The University also distinguished itself in the subcategory of International Outlook under Medicine and Health. Ranking 339th globally in this category, Medipol surpassed all public and foundation universities in Türkiye to secure 1st place.

Commenting on the results achieved in the THE 2026 World University Rankings by Subject, Istanbul Medipol University President Prof. Dr. Bahadır Kürşat Güntürk stated the following:

The progress we have recorded in the fields of Business and Economics, Engineering, and Medicine and Health compared to previous years indicates that this approach is yielding tangible outcomes. MEDIPOL IN THE 801–1,000 BAND IN THE THE WORLD RANKINGS
As a reminder, Istanbul Medipol University had previously ranked within the 801–1,000 band in the overall standings of the THE World University Rankings 2026, announced in October 2025. In the list prepared by the London-based ranking organization based on data from 2,191 universities that met a certain academic standard, Medipol increased its global academic visibility by rising from the 1,501+ band it had occupied the previous year. The University was positioned 9th among the 109 universities from Türkiye included in the ranking.

TOP UNIVERSITIES IDENTIFIED IN 11 FIELDS
Since 2004, THE has been providing reliable data on university performance to a broad audience, ranging from students and academics to university administrators, as well as public and industry representatives. Closely monitoring universities worldwide, THE evaluates the academic standing and research capacity of higher education institutions through various indicators.
Within the scope of the THE 2026 World University Rankings by Subject, universities were evaluated across 11 different fields. The assessments were based on 18 performance indicators reflecting universities’ research strength, knowledge production, and academic impact.
Accordingly, the published subject rankings covered the fields of Arts and Humanities, Computer Science, Medicine and Health, Engineering, Social Sciences, Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Business and Economics, Education, Law, and Psychology. Thus, not only the overall performance of universities but also their field-specific academic competencies were rendered visible.
