Our inventor academicians, who founded Turkey’s first 5G lab to research 5G wireless technology, also maintain their works on 6G at the lab. Academicians of the School of Engineering and Natural Sciences, who came to the country as a reverse brain drain, also have rolled up their sleeves for the sixth generation (6G) wireless technology. In this context, Istanbul Medipol University has organized two different 6G workshops and carried the researches in the field of communication technology to the top in our country. The future of communication technologies has discussed at the workshops where high-level managers from the public, university, and industry participated. While the 5G wireless system is not in our country yet, Medipol’s inventor academicians assume a pioneering role by focusing on 6G researches. Future-ready undergraduate, graduate, and Ph.D. engineering students also have taken part in the researches. At the 5G and Beyond Lab, the researches, which is the first in our country continues.


Prof. Arslan noted that 3G and 4G offer a world where people reach information and communicate faster says the objects could communicate with 5G and 6G. When the process is implemented, a patient in the U.S. could be treated by a doctor in Turkey thanks to the wireless technology. Arslan also says that the experiment with 4G but not fully successful driverless cars would hit the roads. A thousand different devices would communicate with each other for the treatment of a patient. As a country, we should catch the opportunity we missed in 5G at 6G. The purpose of the workshops we organize is to create 6G awareness, to bring stakeholders together, to establish cooperation on patent and technology production. We must take part in the R&D and production phases of 6G. Otherwise, we would be just a country that purchases products.’



Almost all the academicians of the School of Engineering and Natural Sciences, who provide education to the master’s and Ph.D. students from many countries, has come from abroad and educate scientists for engineering at Medipol. In addition to the brain drain, academics act as a bridge between elite universities, institutes, and companies abroad and our students. Scientists, especially coming from the U.S., Germany, and Japan, become the leader in Ph.D. in Turkey with their projects that have already started.

Dr. Edge and 5G Technology: In the field of 2.5G edge and 5G communication technologies, Prof. Hüseyin Arslan, Dean of School of the Engineering and Natural Sciences has important works. The patents of waveforms produced by Arslan’s work in this field are also his own.


Transponder Signal for F-Series: Signal production part of the transponders providing communication with the outside world in F-16 and similar aircraft was designed by Prof. Ercüment Arvas and his students.


Video Transport System: Now television, the internet, and telephone can be delivered to the houses with a single fiber line. CHPMax5000, which is necessary for this, combines, separates, sends, amplifies, and manages the optical signals were developed by Prof. Kemal Özdemir and his team at Philips.


Biological Imaging in Space: Muscle loses up due to the zero-g environment. With the system designed by Assist. Prof. M. Fatih Toy, the instant response of muscle cells can be displayed in the zero-g environment. The system was used on Zero-G flights sponsored by the European Space Agency.


Wi-Fi Chip: Connecting to the internet via Wi-fi is an indispensable part of our lives. Wi-fi chips of the biggest company in this field are designed by Assist. Prof. Hakan Doğan
