Istanbul Medipol University Ranked Second in Patent Increase

Istanbul Medipol University became the second university to make the highest increase in patent applications and maximize its patent portfolio.

The results of the ‘Patent Report of Turkey 2020’’ conducted by Patent Effect to present Turkey’s technology development and commercialization capabilities with patent data and make the development of the patent ecosystem visible have been announced.

Istanbul Medipol University has achieved significant success by ranking at the top in different categories of the report, which is an important parameter in measuring and monitoring innovation performance.

According to the report results, which is one of the few studies in this field in the world, Istanbul Medipol University became the second university with the highest increase in patent/utility model applications published between 2019-2020 with 42 applications.

Istanbul Medipol University ranked second in this field by increasing its patent portfolio by 64 per cent compared to last year.

Istanbul Medipol University, which completed its 10th year of establishment last year, ranked second in medical Technologies with 37 patents, telecommunications with 21 patents and cyber-security with 4 patents.

Istanbul Medipol University ranked in the first five in patent application with an increase of 133 per cent compared to last year.

Istanbul Medipol University, Rector Rep. Prof. Dr. Ömer Ceran, said that they work meticulously on the patenting of inventions generated in scientific research within the Technology Transfer Office. Expressing that they provide serious support for academicians to conduct more and effective scientific research, Ceran stated that more than 130 research projects are supported by TÜBİTAK.

Noting transferring the information and technologies created in universities to our national industry is crucial, Ceran continued; “We once again saw that domestic industry is crucial in health technologies during the pandemic period. We conduct intensive studies for our inventions to be used in the industry. Our patents, especially in health and communication fields, will positively contribute to the development of our domestic industry.”

443 REGISTRATION APPLICATIONS HAVE BEEN MADE

The Technology Transfer Office, which supports the achievement of permanent superiorities in science and technology production and the delivery of the produced technology to the industry and society in line with the developing needs, made 443 intellectual and industrial property registration applications.

205 of the applications made were within the scope of patents, 105 were design, 74 were international patent and 32 were within the utility model.

In addition, Istanbul Medipol University TTO, which has applied 14 European Patens and 12 American Patents, registered 106 ongoing applications by registering it nationally and 1 of them as internationally.
