APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS GUIDE FOR GRADUATE SCHOOL OF SOCIAL SCIENCES PROGRAMS FOR THE FALL TERM OF 2021-2022 ACADEMIC YEAR

Dear Candidates,

Applications for Graduate School of Social Sciences programs at our University in the Fall semester of the 2021-2022 academic year will be made in accordance with the principles specified in this guide.In order to carry out application and registration procedures, you are required to read the guide carefully and complete it. ONLINE APPLICATION PROCEDURES

Application procedures for the programs belonging to the departments of our Graduate School, whose quotas are opened in the Fall semester of the 2021-2022 Academic Year, will be made uninterruptedly only on the internet during the application dates.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

  1. A) Graduation Requirement:
  • Candidates need to hold a Bachelor’s degree diploma to apply for a graduate program.
  • Students who graduated with a master’s degree with a thesis and registered or graduated from non-thesis master’s programs before 06/02/2013 will be able to apply to doctoral programs.

– In the recruitment of out-of-field students, the interview jury, formed by the Head of the Department for out-of-field student recruitments, can make the student take Scientific Preparatory Courses, if necessary.

  1. B) Academic Personnel and Postgraduate Entrance Exam (ALES):

– To have at least 55 standard points in the score type of the applied program,

– It is not required to take the ALES exam for a graduate program without a thesis.

– It is not required for international students to take the ALES exam. Instead of ALES 149, points from the GRE exam, which is accepted as an equivalent, 450 points from the GMAT exam are required. (If the department wishes)

– ALES is valid for 5 years.

  1. C) Language Requirement:

– It is required to obtain a language certificate for doctoral programs. For YDS and YÖKDİL, at least 55 and above and one of the exam results equivalent to 55 points from other exams whose equivalence is accepted by YÖK must be documented.

– YDS and YÖKDİL are valid for 5 years, TOEFL is valid for 2 years.

  1. D) Internal Transfer Requirement:

Internal transfer quota applications will be made directly to the Directorate.

The required documents for Internal Transfer Quota Application:

  1. Internal Transfer Request Document,
  2. Approved copy of the newly dated education status document, which indicates the stage at which the candidates are registered from the institute they are registered at,
  3. Certified copy of the transcript,
  4. Print of the ALES or equivalent exam result,
  5. Print of YDS/ YÖKDİL or equivalent exam result (for Doctoral programs.)

DOCUMENTS AND INFORMATION TO UPLOAD TO THE SYSTEM DURING THE ONLINE APPLICATION

 Diploma or Graduation certificate

 Transcript

 ALES certificate

 GRE or GMAT Certificate (For international students)

 Foreign Language Certificate (YDS, YÖKDİL and equivalent) (for Doctoral programs)

 Passport photo: It will be uploaded to the system in JPEG format.  The uploaded photos will be in passport size format to ensure the recognition of the candidate.

 Newly dated Military Certificate for male candidates,

 Copy of the ID card/passport

 Employment Certificate (to benefit from scholarships opportunities)

 Reference and Motivation Letter (Only for the relative departments)

EVALUATION CRITERIA

In determining the entrance score for Masters with Thesis Programs;

– 50% of ALES or equivalent exam score,

– 20% of the Undergraduate grade average.

– 30% of the Interview score is added.

In determining the entrance score for Masters without Thesis Programs;

– 50% of the Undergraduate graduation grade average,

– 50 % of the Interview score is added.

In determining the entrance grade to the Doctoral Programs;

– 50% of ALES or equivalent exam score,

– 20% of the Graduate program grade average,

–  30% of the Interview score is added.

 

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS FOR FINAL REGISTRATION

Candidates entitled to final registration must submit their written documents to the relevant Directorates within the specified dates.

1) Copy of undergraduate diploma or graduation certificate for the application to the Graduate program, the original (1 copy) of the graduate diplomas or graduation certificate for the application to the doctoral programs,

Candidates who graduated from higher education institutions abroad must submit their diploma or graduation certificates with Turkish translations.

2) The original and (1 copy) of the transcripts showing the success grades and graduation grade point average of all courses taken during undergraduate and graduate education.

Candidates who graduated from higher education institutions abroad must submit their transcript records with Turkish translations and GPA. (1 copy)

3) Print of ALES or equivalent exam result page  (ALES is valid for 5 years.)

4) Print of YDS or equivalent exam result page

(YDS and YÖKDİL are valid for 5 years, TOEFL is valid for 2 years.)

5) Copy of the ID card (For international students, document with Foreign ID number and passport copy)

6) Employment Certificate (to benefit from scholarship opportunities )

7) New dated Military Status Certificate to be obtained from the military branches of male candidates. (It is not required for international students.)

ATTENTION !!!

– Applications will be online.

– Candidates entitled to final registration must submit the required written documents to directorate personally within the Registration and Documents Submission dates. Otherwise, the final registration of the candidates will not be processed.

– The applications must be made by taking into account the special conditions specified in the 2021-2022 academic year fall semester quota tables.

-Candidates who do not apply in accordance with the requirements will not be invited to interview and their applications will be cancelled.

– After uploading the documents to the system, candidates must click ‘Save’ first, then the ‘Finish Registration’ button. Otherwise, documents are not visible on the system.

– Students who apply online will not be sent an e-mail stating that they have applied, and the interview dates will be published on the web page.

– If the student’s transcript or diploma does not have a grade point average of 100 according to the system, the grade conversion table of the Council of Higher Education will be taken as a basis.

– The final registrations of those who make false statements and those whose documents are incomplete are not processed, and those whose final registrations are processed will be cancelled.

To benefit from the scholarships, it is required to upload an employment certificate to the system during the applications, other applications made later will not be considered.

– For the principals not specified in this guide, the provisions of Istanbul Medipol University Graduate Regulations are applied.
